I've been using After Effects and in that you could drag audio files on the timeline easy backward and forward. But in motion it just seemed to be stuck in the Audio Editor window.
This used to annoy me when I first started using motion. But like all these things the answer was right in front of me. Select the timeline tab and at the bottom left you will see some icons a film strip, sound speaker etc. Just highlight the sound speaker and that should make the audio layers appear. Even save it as your default layout for next time you boot up!
